A new vector work.

The photo used for this digital work was made at the exhibition that accompanied the movie at ARGOS (BXL). The photo is not the real captain (Johan Leysen) himself but rather a stunning real-life sculpture made by casting his face with an advanced silicone technique. Hence his closed eyes.

The vast emptiness of the movie inspired us for this online piece.

Technical sidenote:

• The animation is made with a combination of css and jQuery. It's less than 400KB.
• The page refreshes after 300 sec - a loop would be better but requires a rewrite or more jQuery knowledge - it beats the 'marquee' tag in the first version - jQuery with easing runs smoother and has custom speed.
• Only open source tools were used:
  • html, css and java written with Bluefish
  • image manipulation in Gimp

.COM'ONs first network event was held at Vrac l'Escaut (18 & 19 december 2010)

We've met great people, and are looking forward to the future of this project by artist/curator Sara Bomans.

.COM’ON is a new networking initiative, open for every visitor to participate. Within the context of an exhibition with art, film and performances, it’s aim is to encourage people to connect. Unlike most events where you might make promising contacts, the .COM’ON project will enforce the new network by giving opportunities to show results of collaborations during a next .COM’ON show in another city or venue.

Artworks will be shown ‘naked’, in their purest form, without frames or protection. This refers to the wish of the .COM’ON concept to make the networking process open and clear, without hidden agendas. The works, as well as the contacts made, are out in the open.

Be there, and find your creative soulmate in a constellation of profilebadges and postcards. These are the growing materialisation of the .COM’ON network!

For this exhibition we've made a serie of 6 older paintings and drawings that we digitized and further enhanced in Inkscape (vector drawing).

They're printed with a Lambda and have a Diasec finish. The Diasec gives the sharp vector edges a 'glow effect'.

The backgrounds are actually clear white, but then the photo's don't show the glowing effect.
